Ryan had been the head coach the last time the Jets made a postseason appearance and under his reign, the Jets made back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in 2009 and 2010. He was fired after the 2014 season when the team went 4-12.

A day before the scheduled meeting with Jets owner Woody Johnson, Ryan believes he’s the best candidate for the job and that he will get his old job back.

Former head coach turned NFL analyst Rex Ryan is reportedly interviewing for the HC job. Ryan, who has previously coached the Jets (2009-2014) and the Buffalo Bills (2015-2016) seeks a new opportunity to get back on the sideline. New York is giving Ryan an interview on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The New York Jets have interviewed current ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick for their vacant general manager position. Riddick, 55, has never held the GM title in the league before, but he has been a coveted interview candidate for vacant jobs in recent years and is a well-respected pundent in his industry.

Rex Ryan hasn't been a head coach in the NFL since 2016. He hasn't held a coordinator job or anything close to it since as well. The ESPN analyst has always been brash, and always willing to ruffle feathers both in the organization he coaches and outside across the league.
