E.U. trade ministers agreed Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of 30% tariffs on the European Union was “absolutely unacceptable,” and they are studying a new set of countermeasures to respond to the move.

The EU says the U.S. is resisting efforts to strike a trade deal and warned of countermeasures if no agreement is reached with U.S. by Aug. 1.

US President Donald Trump has announced that all imports from the EU and Mexico will have a 30% tariff as of August 1. He sent letters to EU President Ursula von der Leyen and Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum informing them of the new rates, which were also posted on his Truth Social account on Saturday.
