A US Secret Service agent who leapt on to John F Kennedy's limousine as it came under fire in Dallas, and was pictured in famous photos of one of the most dramatic events in US history, has died at the age of 93.

Secret Service agent and North Dakota native Clint Hill jumped onto the presidential limousine and used his body to shield first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and mortally wounded President John F. Kennedy

Clint Hill received Secret Service awards and was promoted for his actions that day, but for decades blamed himself for the US president's death.

Clint Hill, who was seen in film footage of the assassination scrambling across the back of the presidential limousine, died at his home. He was 93.
