SAN JUAN COUNTY, CO – A Michigan runner collapsed and died while competing in an endurance race in the southwest Colorado mountains. The deceased runner was identified as 60-year-old Elaine Stypula, according to the San Juan County Colorado Coroner’s Office.

One friend of Elaine Stypula -- the runner who died during the Hardrock 100 race in Silverton -- said she was "very generous" and "wanted to help everybody."

Wildfire smoke coming in from Canada has overspread much of Michigan already today. It will create hazy skies, and has prompted an Air Quality Alert for much of the state. The alert will stretch into Monday.
