Hugo Gonzalez was clearly frustrated with his play against the Heat as he struggled for stretches of the game.

LAS VEGAS — A stellar first-half defensive effort and another impressive double-double performance from Charles Bassey propelled the Boston Celtics to a 94-81 win over the New York Knicks in an NBA 2K26 Summer League battle at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The upshot of the Heat’s summer-league victory Monday night against the Celtics was that meaningful boxes were checked off.

LAS VEGAS — Jordan Walsh was midway through a stellar Summer League game leading the Celtics, but his night got an early exit. Walsh was ejected with 3:34 left in the second quarter of the Celtics’ game against the Heat on Monday after a hard foul on the Heat’s Pelle Larsson.

It is almost unheard of for a player to make as strong of a case as Bassey has for a spot on the Celtics roster in summer league.

But as painful as this offseason has been thus far for Celtics fans, those minutes up front for Boston is why big man Luka Garza opted to sign a two-year deal in free agency.
