Search-and-rescue operations along the Guadalupe River were halted Sunday after a new round of heavy rain led to more high-water rescues and prompted fears that waterways could surge again above their banks.

Responders from six Alabama cities are part of the teams that will help search for about 170 people still believed to be missing.

A flood watch was in effect for more than a dozen counties as authorities resumed the search for victims of the July 4 tragedy.
