Gov. Mike DeWine announced Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as his pick to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the U.S. Senate Friday. Vance resigned his Ohio Senate seat last week. Husted will serve in the Senate for two years and must run in the November 2026 election if he wants to keep the seat.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to appoint his lieutenant governor, Jon Husted, to the Senate seat recently vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance, two sources with knowledge of the decision told NBC News.

J.D. Vance had four years left on his Senate term before he resigned from his seat. Jon Husted is expected to take his place.
