The Department of Justice on Monday urged the Supreme Court to turn away an appeal from Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence.
In the 2024-25 term, Justice Barrett sided with the Court's majority in 81 percent of opinions, which from a total of 61 cases, places her in the minority in 12 decisions—typical for a reliably conservative justice who occasionally breaks from the bloc.
In their brief, Florida's lawyers acknowledged that the case involves adults and minors but said that "doesn't matter."
